Nadorcott Mandarin Season Outlook: Volumes, Sizing & Pricing into Europe

What buyers in the Netherlands, Germany and the Nordics need to plan for the upcoming Nadorcott campaign — from set, sizing and Brix to weekly trucking out of Rotterdam.

Nadorcott Mandarin Season Outlook: Volumes, Sizing & Pricing into Europe

Nadorcott is the backbone of late-season Moroccan citrus into Europe. Bred in Morocco from a Murcott chance seedling, it carries a deep orange peel, easy-peel character and Brix that consistently lands above 12° once mid-season hits. For category managers planning weeks 48 through 14, Nadorcott is the SKU that holds the shelf when Spain's Clemenvilla is fading and South African counter-season is still six weeks away.

Volume forecast

Set across the Berkane and Souss regions is balanced — neither the alternate-bearing low of two seasons ago nor the over-set that crushed sizing in 2023. Our growers expect Crown Fields' planned volume to grow ~14% year on year, with the majority moving in 10 kg telescopic cartons and 13.6 kg wooden field crates for wholesale.

Size curve

  • Size 1 (78–88 mm): ~12% — premium retail packs
  • Size 2 (67–78 mm): ~34% — the workhorse for DE/NL retail
  • Size 3 (58–67 mm): ~31% — strong for wholesale across the EU
  • Size 4 (54–60 mm): ~18% — Nordic and ethnic wholesale
  • Size 5 (50–55 mm): ~5% — processing and value packs

Pricing & lead times

FOB Agadir lands typically 18–24% below comparable Spanish late-season offers, with full reefer-truck transit to Rotterdam in 4–5 days door-to-door. Crown Fields ships weekly through the Tanger Med / Algeciras short-sea corridor; cross-docked pallets land in Rotterdam for next-day distribution to Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and the Nordics.

Specifying Nadorcott early — with a fixed-week, fixed-size program — is what protects margin when the spot market spikes in week 6.

What to lock in now

Buyers planning ahead should fix programs by mid-October for the November–March window. Crown Fields' programs include weekly QC reports, Brix/acidity at packing, and GlobalG.A.P. + GRASP certificates per lot.
